Some say that sixty is the new forty. If that is the case, then you can expect to spend nearly half your life retired. Thankfully, this no longer means being confined to a retirement home playing shuffleboard and eating Jell-o. Instead, retirement today means a chance to travel, to start a second career, to take up a hobby you always wanted to, going back to school, or to spend time tweaking your investments. The possibilities are simply endless when it comes to senior retirement. One of the things that many people are doing after they retire is going back to school. Community colleges and tech schools offer tons of courses on computers, handicrafts, and literature that are geared toward the retired crowd. You can work for a certificate or just have fun and meet new people. You can also take less formal classes at a gym or community center in yoga, cooking, or art. Other retired people are exploring job avenues that weren't open to them when they had to work full time. Some people are writing technical manuals or books about what they used to do. Other people have discovered the amount of writing work that is available online and have started a new part time job that way. Still others are becoming consultants or speakers in their industry. Many retirees like to travel. It certainly doesn't have to be in a motor home any more. They choose to visit family and friends or to take cruises or tour group trips to exotic locations all around the world. Flying business class is almost like staying in bed all day, and so destinations like Australia and Thailand are no longer out of the question. Senior retirement is truly the door to an entirely new chapter in your life. There are so many possibilities available to you.
